6th Class Graduation
Our 6th Class had a lovely graduation ceremony in the Heritage Centre where they watched a video that they made on their memories of their time in the school along with their hopes for the future. They also had some hot food and delicious cakes. They received their graduation certificates and hoodies. They even received a message from the President Michael D. Higgins! I would like to take this opportunity to wish Kyle, Darragh, Kirsten, Niamh, Edel, Shayne, Freddy, Ciarán, William, Laura, Aodhán, Ava, Conor, Adam, Cormac and Ryan well for the future. Thanks very much to Julianne and Eilís in the Heritage Centre.
School Sports Day
We had a fantastic day for our school sports day. The sun was shining all day and we took part in some really fun activities including target toss, musical chairs, parachute games, novelty races, tug of war, orienteering, remember the code and even a water relay. There was great excitement at the end of the day as an ice-cream van drove into the school yard and we were all treated to a delicious ice-cream with a selection of toppings! A huge thanks to all of the staff who worked really hard to make this day such an enjoyable one.
Bebras Challenge National Finals
Congratulations to Conor and Kelvin in 4th Class on reaching the National Finals of the Bebras Challenge. The Bebras Computing Challenge introduces computational thinking to students, by allowing them to solve interactive tasks online. It is run in over 50 countries and takes place every November. Almost 10,000 students took part in the challenge this year so it was a great achievement to reach the National Finals.
STEM Project 2021
We are delighted to have STEM back up and running every Wednesday in Scartaglen N.S. We are learning lots of new skills like coding and computational thinking. We are using BeeBots, Scratch Jr. and Lego WeDo.Thanks to Mrs. O' Leary for all her hard work.
Run the Wild Atlantic Way Challenge
We are running the entire length of the Wild Atlantic Way (2500km!). Every child will be running 6 laps of our 200m track which adds up to 1.2km per day. That means the whole school will be covering 158km every day. We started out in Derry and aim to run all the way to Kinsale. It is great fun and we are getting lots of fresh air and exercise. We are also keeping track of our progress on a map in each classroom.
St. Patrick's Day 2021
We couldn't have our normal St. Patrick's Day parade this year but we still celebrated St. Patrick's Day in style in Scartaglen N.S. We all dressed in green as part of our 'Go Green for St. Patrick's Day' in aid of Kerry Hospice and in memory of our dear colleague Sheila. We were delighted to have raised €800 for this fantastic cause. There were lots of St. Patrick's Day themed events going on around the school including art, music and dance. It was great fun. Remote Learning 2021
All of the boys and girls have been working really hard from home over the last few weeks while the school building was closed. A massive thank you to both the teachers and parents for all their hard work during this time. We are all delighted to finally be back at school!!!
Christmas 2020 in Scartaglen N.S.
There was great excitement over the last couple of weeks as we countdown to the big day. There were all kinds of Chistmas activities going on around the school including a visit from Santa's fastest elf, Christmas performances, beautiful artwork, Christmas magazines and even a video message all the way from the North Pole!! Science Week 2020 in Scartaglen N.S.
We had great fun for Science Week with workshops and experiments going on throughout the school. There were lots of exciting events taking place from building tall paper structures to experiments with food colouring and sugar. STEM classes on coding also took place.
Junior Achievement Workshop on Climate Change
5th/6th Class participated in a workshop over two days on Climate Change facilitated by Maria Lenihan who works with the EPA. They learned all about caring for our environment and received certificates at the end. It was even featured in The Kerryman!!
Trick or Treat for Temple Street
There was great excitement as all the boys and girls dressed up in their Halloween Costumes for Trick or Treat for Temple Street. All money collected was donated to Temple Street Children's Hospital. We also played some Halloween games and music during the lunch break.
First Holy Communion 2020
Well done to Sé, Fionn, Matthew, Liam, Caoimhe, Sean, Ciara, Connie, Frank, Brian, Loren, Mark, Olly and Brígh on celebrating their First Holy Communion. It was a beautiful ceremony celebrated by Fr. Seán Horgan with music by Catherine Nash. A special thanks to Ms. Eilís McCarthy for all her hard work preparing the children for their special day.
Spellings for Me Programme
We are pleased to announce that two of our classes are trialling the “Spellings for Me” Programme. This is an individualised programme for all children to learn spellings at their own level. The programme is completely tailor-made to the child and their ability.
Scartaglen N.S. receive second Green Flag
Scartaglen N.S. were delighted to receive our second Green Flag for water conservation. Thanks to Mrs. Doody and the Green Team for all their hard work raising awareness of water conservation in school and at home.
